There’s a good reason why there are so many cyclists in North Devon all year round. In the summer it’s hard to find a coffee shop without a couple of road bikes parked outside, and in the winter you won’t find a bridleway without some mountain bike tracks left in the mud.

If you’re a hill loving cyclist then you’re in luck. As soon as you leave your self-catering apartment you’re faced with leaving Woolacombe - and the only way is up! The main road out is easy-going but also the busiest, for a more challenging start to a ride you can head up the famous Challacombe Hill, possibly the steepest hill in the local area, it featured as the main climb in the 2018 Tour of’s not for the faint-hearted!

Once you’ve left Woolacombe your choices are endless. Head in the direction of Exmoor via Ilfracombe & Combe Martin for some more challenging climbs, ride towards Croyde & Saunton for more beach action, or join the Tarka Trail for a slower-paced but traffic-free ride into Barnstaple. North Devon has more open road than most of the UK, so the options are endless.

From Woolacombe, if you decide to head towards Exmoor then you can make your way through Combe Martin on the way. Being on the edge of Exmoor, it’s a great gateway onto the national park, passing the local beach and through one of the longest village high streets in England!

Flat and traffic-free, there's 32 miles of cycling trail so you can do as much or as little as you like. Passing through Barnstaple, Instow, and Landcross there is beautiful countryside and plenty of stopping points along the route.
