Things to do in North Devon

The beauty of family holidays in North Devon is the mind-boggling array of things to do. For all ages and interests there is something they will love. Just a flip and a flop from your family holiday apartment is Woolacombe Beach. Home to three miles of sandy goodness, it has surf-perfect waves, cute beach huts and lifeguards from mid-June to the end of November. You can leave your car at your apartment, so there's no need to worry about parking or sandy car syndrome!

Spend days enjoying sandy scavenger hunts, foraging for shells and hunting for rockpool treasures. On rainy days, hit the waves - you're going to get wet anyway, so why not? Woolacombe has a thriving surf community so it's not unusual to follow a pod of surfers as they plod barefoot back from the beach, boards tucked under their arms, reminiscing about the ones that got away! For when you want a bit of adventure, there's...

North Devon is famous for its incredible landscapes – from its stunning coast to its hidden woodlands but it's still easy to escape  the crowds and go off-road, even with a buggy on board.

Off the beaten track

You have beautiful Woolacombe right  on your doorstep but  if you'd like to make a day  of it and go an an adventure, the rewards are heady. Pack a picnic - these secret coves are worth the extra effort

Bring your own bikes - we have amazing trails and tracks! From ‘lovely and level’ to ‘wild and wicked’ there are so many ‘wheely great’ routes to be explored. Flat and family-friendly, the Tarka Trail is our favourite for family days out.

Fun for all ages

Great for when the younger ones get restless or for when it just isn’t a beach day, we've put together a collection of the best places to visit when you stay with us here in Woolacombe.

Hit the waves

North Devon, and particularly Woolacombe, has some of the finest surfing in the UK. Strong westerly swells from the Atlantic Ocean roll in to our long, gently shelving sandy beaches. Lessons and board hire are available.

Go puffin spotting

Lundy Island lies 15 miles off the coast. Leaving by boat, this is a full family day  out. The best months to spot puffins are April – July.  Definitely one for the bucketlist!

Open May _ September

Family holidays in Devon are not complete without a heated pool! The Mini Lido is a little haven exclusively for guests and families staying in the Beach Retreats. The swimming pool with its sun-bleached decking and comfy loungers is at the heart of the Beach Retreat village.

The Beach Retreat Flats are just around the corner, whilst the Beach Retreat Apartments offer direct access and poolside views, so you can easily pop inside for a bite to eat or a siesta.

“As we are a large family with grandchildren, we opted for Self Catering. The apartments were airy, well stocked and had stunning views of both our own lido, the Devon hills and the beautiful beach. Our group’s ages were from 2 years to 78 years - and there was something for everyone.”
